Getting started

Chat Relay for Jira sends selected Jira issue updates to a Google Chat space through an incoming webhook. A Jira administrator configures the connection and decides which projects, events, and fields are sent.

Before you begin

Create a connection

  1. In Google Chat, open the target space and select Apps & integrations โ†’ Webhooks (or Manage webhooks).
  2. Add an incoming webhook, give it a recognizable name, and copy its URL. Treat that URL as a password: anyone who has it can post into the space.
  3. In Jira, open Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ Chat Relay for Jira.
  4. Choose Add connection, enter a name for the team or space, paste the webhook URL, and select the Jira projects for the starter rule.
  5. Select Test. If the test message appears in the target space, save the connection.
  6. Review the starter rule and delivery timing before enabling the connection for a wider project scope.

The app validates the destination and stores the webhook in Forge encrypted secret storage. The full URL is masked after saving. To change it, update the destination through the connection settings.

Set up safely

Start with a test project and a small set of synthetic issues. Use Preview matching issues before saving a rule. Confirm that the preview contains only the work you intended to share, then send a test message and inspect the destination space.

The app reads fields needed to evaluate a rule and build a card. It does not fetch comments or worklogs. Issues with a security level are excluded; if the app cannot confirm an issue is not restricted, it fails closed and skips delivery.

For field descriptions and rule behavior, see Rules and preview. For data handling, read the Privacy Policy.
